The 2006/07 session of Paul Miller program is wrapping up in June. I've had the opportunity to work with some really talented journalists and I thought it would be appropriate to highlight them as we close out this session and accept applications for next year.
Meet Noelle Straub. A native of Green Bay, Wis., she came to DC after earning degrees at the College of William and Mary and the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern. She started at The Hill newspaper where she rose to become their lead Senate reporter. She later joined the Washington Bureau of the Boston Herald and then went on to Lee Enterprises where she now writes for six news papers in Montana and Wyoming. She now covers congressional delegations of those two states as well as a variety national issues of interest to the West.

How has the Paul Miller program helped you do what you do?
The program has introduced me to many new sources, given me story ideas and really helped me learn and think about covering issues that I normally don't think to write about. It's been really great.
What has been your favorite Paul Miller moment?
Hard to choose just one! I enjoyed the behind-the-scenes tours of the National Gallery of Art and the NTSB. Working with a writing coach for a day was also great.
Where are you in your career now and where do you hope to go?
I'm the Washington correspondent for six Lee newspapers in Montana and Wyoming. I really enjoy being a regional reporter in DC and hope that I can stay one for the foreseeable future.
Which working journalist is a must read for you?
For my daily work I always read the AP's regional reporter who covers the same states as me, Mary Clare Jalonick. I always read the Post's Dana Priest because she breaks amazing stories.
What's your favorite source of information online?
For news, the Post or Times; for journalism gossip, mediabistro.com/fishbowlDC
Favorite bite to eat in the District?
Zatinya
Favorite place for a drink in the District? The best happy hour deal?
Just because of the view, I like the Hotel Washington' Sky Terrace.
Chef Geoff's has a pretty good happy hour deal (drinks and food)
What is your "must do" in DC area on the weekends?
Renting a kayak or
canoe to go out on the Potomac; the National Gallery of Art, or walking
in Rock Creek Park.
