WASHINGTON -- A memorial service for Deborah Howell will be held Friday, January 15th, at 11:30 am, at The Washington National Cathedral. A reception at the Cathedral will follow.
There is really no other way around it. Deborah loved journalism. She believed it was essential for democracy. She believed that journalists, regardless of platform, owed absolute accuracy and fairness to their readers or viewers. Killed in New Zealand last week on a country road, she was someone who let you know when you'd made a spelling error (as I have made the mistake of doing), and when you were on the right track.
Deborah joined the board of NPF in 2000. One of my favorite memories is when she called in from a phone booth in Northern California to "attend" a board meeting. She was a no bull- type of person and she is goiong to be missed terribly. (bob meyers)
